New Year, New Adventures

Well well well, WHAT. A. YEAR. Does anyone else feel like 2022 just started, and there’s no way its 2023 already?? From the Oscars slap to Taylor Swift breaking Ticketmaster to Argentina winning the World Cup, last year had no shortage of newsworthy moments. But its time to reset and look ahead to the year that 2023 will be.

Its the time of year to set goals that we’ll inevitably give up on by February, get into some new good habits, and try new things. Not sure where to start? We have some ideas that are sure to get your 2023 started the best it can.

Leave bad beer in 2022

Come on now, its time to venture on from that beer you’ve been drinking your whole life and try some local craft beer. Did you know that there are over 200 craft breweries in BC, and 6 in Chilliwack alone? There’s truly no shortage of amazing beer brewed in your own backyard for you to sip on in 2023.

We may be biased, but OYB is a great place to start your craft beer adventure. Whether you’ve been drinking Bud Light since you were 19 (try our Fraser Valley Lager), or haven’t ventured into the beer world at all (try the Raspberry Lemon Drop Sour), there’s truly something for everyone here.

Already an OYB fan but want to venture out and try some new breweries? How about our newest brewery in Chilliwack, Sidekick Brewing. Venturing out past Chilliwack? Try Field House in Abbotsford, Yellow Dog in Port Moody, or Superflux in Vancouver.

blaze a new trail

The Fraser Valley has no shortage of beautiful, scenic hikes for you to check out this year. While it may be a bit chilly right now, bundling up and blazing a new trail is a great way to get your 2023 started on the right foot. Whether it be Teapot Hill, Chilliwack Community Forest, or more difficult Elk Mountain, the peacefulness of a snow covered mountain is a great way to get 2023 off to a good start.

OYB PRO TIP: Celebrate your great accomplishment of braving the cold with a nice, refreshing OYB beer at the top. #EarnYourBeer

pay it forward

This one will not only help you get your year started the right way, but will also make someones day just a little bit brighter. Try some of these pay it forward ideas to bring some happiness to you and your community!

  • Pay for somebody’s coffee in the Starbucks Drive Thru

  • Buy a stranger a beer at OYB

  • Donate food or clothing to a local shelter

  • Volunteer at a local charity

Cook a new meal

Many of us are trying to start better habits this year, and that may include eating out less. We get it, eating out can get expensive and unhealthy. Why not start 2023 off by learning a few new recipes that can be used all the time. So dust off those recipe books (Who are we kidding, just Google it) and get cooking! Here’s a good recipe to start off with, a healthy Butternut Squash Soup.

read a new book

Not a fan of the cold? How about curling up at home with a new book? We can become so obsessed with binging that new Netflix show, or that new Amazon Prime show, or that new Disney+ show, it may be a good idea to step back and read more books this year. Here’s some of Team OYB’s recommendations on what to read:

  • Verity by Colleen Hoover

  • Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

  • Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry

  • And There Was Light: Abraham Lincoln and the American Struggle by Jon Meacham

  • Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (Had to throw that one in there)

There you have it, some ideas for how to start 2023 off the right way. Do you have any new adventures that should be added to this list? Let us know on social media!

Happy New Years, friends!
