Pawsitively Perfect Days Out: A Guide to Dog-Friendly Trails
Here at Old Yale, we believe two things unconditionally: 1) Adventures are essential, and 2) They’re always better with your four-legged best friend. The wagging tail at the trailhead, the happy panting on the path, the celebratory zoomies in the park—it’s a simple, perfect kind of joy.
That’s why we’re more than just dog-friendly; we’re proudly Pawsitively Welcome! After you and your trusty co-pilot have explored the great outdoors, our patios are the perfect place to put your paws up and relax.
To help you plan your next outing, we’ve sniffed out some of the best local dog-friendly trails near our breweries in the Fraser Valley and Beaumont. Leash up, grab the good treats, and let’s go!
Fraser Valley Adventures (Chilliwack & Abbotsford)
Our home turf is a paradise for people and their pups. With lush forests, rushing rivers, and stunning mountain views, you’re never far from an incredible walk.
The Vedder River Rotary Trail (Chilliwack): This is the ultimate crowd-pleaser for dogs of all shapes and sizes. This mostly flat, wide gravel trail runs for miles along the gorgeous Vedder River. With numerous access points and designated off-leash sections, you can choose your own adventure. It's perfect for a leisurely stroll, a game of fetch by the water, or a longer trail run with your energetic companion.
Vibe: Easy-going, social, and scenic.
Teapot Hill (Chilliwack): Looking for a bit more of a climb with a quirky reward? Teapot Hill is a Fraser Valley classic. This moderate, family-friendly hike winds up through the forest above Cultus Lake. The best part? Keep your eyes peeled for the dozens of hidden teapots and teacups that locals have placed along the trail. It’s a whimsical adventure your whole crew will love.
Vibe: A fun, forested climb with a quirky payoff.
Sumas Mountain Trail (Abbotsford): For the truly adventurous duo, the trails on Sumas Mountain offer a more rugged experience. The hike to the Chadsey Lake viewpoint is a solid workout that rewards you with beautiful forest scenery and a peaceful destination. It’s a fantastic way to tire out even the most energetic pups and earn that post-hike pint.
Vibe: A challenging, rewarding workout in the woods.
Beaumont & Area Expeditions
We’re so excited to explore our new Alberta backyard, and we’ve found some fantastic spots for our furry friends to roam right here in Beaumont.
Beaumont’s Integrated Trail System: You don’t have to go far for a fantastic walk! Beaumont is connected by more than 33km of beautiful, paved trails that wind through green spaces and parks. It’s a safe, accessible, and convenient way to get your daily steps in with your pup, right in your own community.
Vibe: Convenient, clean, and community-focused.
Four Seasons Park Off-Leash Area: Let them run free! Located within Beaumont's beautiful Four Seasons Park, the designated off-leash area is a social hub for the town's canine community. It's a safe, fenced space where your dog can burn off energy, chase a ball, and make new friends while you socialize with fellow dog lovers.
Vibe: Social, safe, and full of puppy playtime.
The Perfect Finish: Patios, Pints & Pups
What’s the one thing that makes a great day on the trails even better? Relaxing afterwards with a cold beer in hand and your tired, happy dog at your feet.
Our patios at all three of our locations—Chilliwack, Abbotsford, and Beaumont—are proudly dog-friendly! We always have fresh water bowls ready to quench that post-hike thirst (for both of you). You’ve done the exploring; now it’s time to kick back and soak it all in.
So next time you plan a day out, make us your last stop. We can’t wait to welcome you and your adventurous pup!
